Stoke City suffered their first defeat in seven outings at the bet365 Stadium as Preston North End netted two goals without reply to take home the points. The first half Stoke were in complete control but failed to take the chances that they created
Successive set piece strikes from first Alan Browne and then Tom Barkhuizen comdemned the Potters to defeat on a cold evening.
It was an even start to the contest with Stoke initially starting the better before North End began to find a way into the game without creating any clear chance.Preston had their spells of possession but they did little to test the City goal as the sides went in level at the break.
The Potters started the brighter of the two sides and could easily have taken the lead when Campbell fired just wide when given too much space in the area.
But the visitors went ahead minutes later when Browne tapped home following a scramble after a corner. Tom Barkhuizen tested Butland, but the Potters keeper beat his effort away from goal. However, he had his goal not long later when from another corner on the same side, he tapped home following slack defending.
The Potters tried to find a way back into the contest late on but they failed to test the North End goal further as Preston departed the bet365 Stadium with the three points.
