Stoke suffered their biggest defeat of the season at Derby County and failed to get a shot on target
Martyn Waghorn, Chris Martin, Wayne Rooney and Jayden Bogle all beat Jack Butland as the Potters struggled to get into the game in the East Midlands.
City welcome Charlton Athletic to the bet365 Stadium next Saturday, in a clash that will prove crucial to their Championship survival hopes especially after Wigan won at Leeds on Saturday. After an uneventful start it was the Rams who opened the scoring with 20 minutes gone through Waghorn. Forsyth was left unmarked on the left-had side and his cross found him unmarked to head the home side ahead. Derby doubled their lead just two minutes later when Duane Holmes was given too much space to find Martin, who made no mistake in the penalty area.
Stoke began to find a foothold in the game as the half drew to a close when some neat build up play between Nick Powell and Tom Ince saw the latter find James McClean in space. Unfortunately, his touch let him down and his drive was deflected over. With around 20 minutes left the home side wrapped up the three points.
Rooney picked his spot with a free-kick on the edge of the area . Bogle added a fourth to round off the scoring.
Yet another wake up call for the Potters who have sixteen games to go.
