Cilla the Musical is a mixture of highs and heart tearing lows , a modern day fairytale of a young girl from Merseyside who followed her dream of fame and fortune to become one of Britain’s biggest selling female singers and a much-loved TV personality. A tale of love, devotion, selfish ambition and pride yet inspirational.
The show is built around the songs but also the personal life coloured by her fierce ambition and the man who loved her, married her and eventually managed her career, Bobby Willis.
Following in Cilla’s footsteps is Kara Lily Hayworth, who was discovered by open audition where she queued for four hours to be seen, has already demonstrated a Cilla like determination to succeed; she brings that tenacity, confidence and and great vocals to the stage. Her performance is brilliant. Carl Au as Bobby and Andrew Lancel as Epstein bring some light and shade into Cilla’s life as they deal with ambitions and demons of their own.
Scott Alder’s rousing musical direction keeps the hits coming, and even before the finale, it has the audience on its feet, joining in with the singing and dancing. it’s a show that does the memory of Cilla proud.
