Whether you love or hate the theatre, you would have heard of the world-famous ‘Rocky Horror Show’. A tale of two lovers who get involved with aliens from the planet Transylvania is definitely a great alternative to the usual romance stories we commonly see. The Regent Theatre in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has been graced with the presence of this amazing show, which runs for the next week. Director Christopher Luscombe’s cast choices may surprise you, with ‘Heartbeat’s Phillip Franks as the Narrator and ‘Tracy Beaker’ star Dani Harmer as Janet, as they step into roles that you would not expect. However they, like the rest of the cast, pull off an amazingly spectacular performance that will keep you entranced for the duration of the play. Frank’s showed his improvisation ability throughout the night as the audience’s heckling got more and more risqué, which added to the comedy. Prepare to also be amazed by Oliver Thornton’s portrayal of the crazy Fran-n-Furter, another one with good responses to the crowd, and Sam Attwater’s skill at playing Brad. For such as spectacular and dramatic musical, the other components aside from acting really make it work. The simple sets are used cleverly and effectively, a visible live orchestra and Nick Riching’s lighting choices will make you unable to take your eyes off the stage. Need I say more? You need to experience the production for yourself because no amount of words could summarise this great piece of theatrical work from Richard O’Brien. Even if you’re the shy and retiring type, you need to see this performance. And if you’re lucky enough to see it at the extravagant Regent Theatre, then you’re in for a night of fun and excitement. Get ready to sing, dance and shout at the stage. Just make sure you dress up for the occasion, even a little bit!

As we launched our Paul Ware Memorial Stoke City Player Of The Year award back in April, Knot FM have teamed up with Just Giving to bring you a chance to win one of three fantastic prizes. We are asking Stoke fans to donate as little or as much as possible to The Samantha Dickinson Brain Tumour Trust in memory of former Stoke City player, Paul Ware. Knot FM have been in touch with Paul’s daughters, Laura and Amy and they have asked that any money we raise go to this worthwhile cause. The Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust is a British medical research charity dedicated to the curing of childhood and adult brain tumours. Research funded by the Trust has already resulted in a number of published papers and improvements in the treatment of some brain tumour types. The charity was started by Neil and Angela Dickson who lost their daughter, Samantha, to a brain tumour when she was just 16 years old. They had become aware of the lack of properly funded research into this cancer and were determined to try and remedy the situation. To support this fantastic cause and to take part in our competition is very easy to do.

Knot FM chat to Gary Mavers, star of Boon, Peak Practice, Casualty and Doctors. Gary talks to us about his life, career and his latest project, Go Back For Murder which is the stage version of Agatha Cristie’s Five Little Pigs, showing at The Regent Theatre. Go Back For Murder is now in its eighth thrilling year. Carla Le Marchant learns a disturbing family secret; her mother, Caroline Crale, died in prison after being convicted for poisoning her father. Caroline leaves an intriguing legacy in the form of a letter professing her innocence and, believing this to be true, Carla is determined to clear her mother’s name. Enlisting the help of Justin Fogg; the son of her mother’s defence lawyer, Carla searches out all the players from her tragic history and brings them back to the scene of the crime to uncover the truth. Suspects, secrets, and red herrings abound in this thrilling new production of Go Back for Murder which follows the hugely successful; The Hollow, The Unexpected Guest, And Then There Were None, Spider’s Web, Witness For The Prosecution, Verdict, and Murder on the Nile. A classic ‘Whodunit’ packed with intrigue, murder and suspense from the pen of the great Dame Agatha Christie. Go Back for Murder runs from 28th May until 1st June at The Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent. Tickets can be ordered from the Box Office or online here http://www.atgtickets.com/shows/go-back-for-murder/regent-theatre/

The post Interview: TV and Theatre Star, Gary Mavers appeared first on Knot FM.

T’MAR”, re-produced by Errol Kennedy, co-produced by Yam Who? and mixed by Paulo Silva with Vocals by Rohan Reckord, John Gibbons & T’MAR, can be downloaded exclusively on www.errolkennedy.com from Saturday 20/04/2013. All major online stores (like iTunes, amazon.com, etc.) will follow from the official release date onwards. Errol Kennedy has pledged to donate five pence of each download sale from this single to BREAKTHROUGH BREAST CANCER – a United Kingdom charity dedicated to saving lives by finding the causes of breast cancer, improving detection, diagnosis, treatment and services. His partnership with this organization emerged due to his Mother having been diagnosed and having suffered heavily from the disease. With the rework “Just An Illusion feat. T’MAR” and the Errol Kennedy Project, Errol is not just supporting young talent like the Spain-based singer & rapper T’MAR but also celebrating his take on the legacy and the 30TH Anniversary of his former band Imagination. Errol Kennedy says: “It is time to honor the 30TH Anniversary of Imagination as well as our biggest single “JUST AN ILLUSION” and especially the history we made with our iconic & legendary 80’s funk/soul/pop sound and outrageous outfits!” The band’s first UK hit single “BODY TALK”, released in May 1981, spent 18 weeks in the UK Singles Chart reaching the Top 10 and sold 250.000 copies within 4 months. This was quickly followed by two other chart topping singles “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” and “FLASHBACK”, which Errol Kennedy also co-wrote.

The new Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent has vowed to spread the word about what a great place the city is during her year in office. Councillor Sheila Pitt will be selected for the role of First Citizen at today’s (Thursday) annual council meeting of Stoke-on-Trent City Council. She said: “I am really looking forward to my year in office and will be aiming to meet as many people as possible, particularly the young people of the city to enjoy their achievements and listen to their plans for their future. “I shall do my utmost to spread the word of what a great city Stoke-on-Trent is and how we can all look forward to its regeneration over the next few years. “With the city recently celebrating the official opening of its new bus station and work pushing ahead with the Central Business District, it’s a very exciting time to be Lord Mayor of this great city.” Hanley-born Sheila went to the former St John’s Primary School and Brownhills High School, in Tunstall, when it was an all girls’ school. She worked as a secretary at companies including Woolliscroft Solicitors, Cresswell Ironmongers and Woolliscroft Tiles. Now retired, she served as a councillor between 2004 and 2008 and then took a break before being elected to the Bentilee and Ubberley ward in 2011. Outside of the council chamber, the married grandmother-of-seven’s interests include photography, classical music and researching her family history. She is also a member of Moss Green Art Group and paints in acrylics, mainly landscapes including urban as well as rural. Sheila will raise money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice and the local branch of the British Cardiac Patients Association during her time in office. She said: “Dougie Mac provide wonderful support and palliative care to their patients and the patients association raises money for University Hospital of North Staffordshire for equipment they require in the treatment of heart disease, as well as help and advice for heart patients and their carers. “I’m looking forward to raising as much money as possible for these two very worthy causes.” One of Sheila’s first official engagements as new Lord Mayor will be to visit the RHS Chelsea Flower Show next week, where Stoke-on-Trent is going for gold with a stunning Transformation Garden. Sheila will be accompanied in her civic duties by her husband Barry, who will be her consort, with close friend Joan Bailey chosen as substitute consort. During his year in office, outgoing Lord Mayor Councillor Terry Crowe raised more than £5,000 for charity, with the main benefactors being Stoke-on-Trent Disabled Sports Association and North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group. He said: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic year and one which I shall never forget. The people of Stoke-on-Trent have been very supportive throughout the 12 months and I would like to personally thank them for that.” Councillor Majid Khan, who represents Etruria and Hanley, is expected to be appointed Deputy Lord Mayor for the year ahead at today’s meeting.

The post Classical music fan Sheila set to be named new Lord Mayor appeared first on Knot FM.
