Leek Town manager Lee Casswell has told Knot FM that he fully expects winger John Johnston to join Crewe Alexandra.
Johnston, signed for Leek Town this summer from fellow Division one south side Kidsgrove Athletic and Johnston who’s performances have earned recognition from a number of league clubs has been training with the Railwaymen since last week.
Casswell told Knot FM “we are trying to work something out with the possibility that he can come back to us for the rest of the season, nothing has been decided but that’s something we’re really keen to do. I think Crewe have been quite happy with what they have seen.”
“There are teams speaking about him from all around, Leek has earned a lot of recognition for his performances”
The blues 2nd in the league will be receiving a “fair” sum of money from the alex.
There was interest from Shrewsbury, Walsall and Stevenage, who offered Johnston a trial and a “championship” club were interested in signing the flying winger. However, it looks like Steve Davis’ side will be signing what manager Casswell described “One of the best young prospects in Staffordshire.”
However, Casswell remains confident that he will be able to help Leek’s promotion charge saying “I pretty much certain we will be keeping JJ for the rest of the season”
Johnston faces his former club as Leek Town travel to Kidsgrove this saturday looking to close in on the four point gap between the blues and Halesowen
