In a 0-0 draw at The Pirelli Stadium on Saturday a Stoke City XI were held by a spirited performance by Burton. It was a chance for Stoke fans to see Dionatan Teixeira and Steve Sidwell play on UK turf with World Cup stars Odemwingie, Cameron and Palacios on show.
Hughes also fielded fringe players such as Ryan Shotton, Brek Shea, Jamie Ness and Cameron Jerome all linked with moves away from the Britannia Stadium. Chances were few and far between but Burton had the greater of the chances with new signing Lucas Akins and striker Dominic Knowles both coming close. But the best of the action was the banter off the field with the Stoke City faithful asking Jack Butland for a wave, but not having their wishes met. This sparked an outrage of “England’s number 2” and boo’s from a section of the Potters fans. It was all in good heart though.
The best chance of the game fell to Stoke substitute Ollie Shenton whose left footed volley was headed off the line by Ian Sharps.
